Marcon has been appointed to deliver the fast-track interpretive fit-out contract for the Grade II listed Hessle Mill in Yorkshire.
Hessle Mill was constructed between 1810 and 1815 and was an industrial whiting windmill designed to crush chalk from the nearby quarry.
The area now forms the Humber Bridge Country Park and is a designated local nature reserve due to its wildlife value and importance to the local community.
The restoration project undertaken to re-open the mill will create an exhibition centre which will form part of The Chalk Walk heritage trail and act as an attraction for the thousands who visit the area each year.
Marcon will work alongside interpretive designers Haley Sharpe Design (www.haleysharpe.com) and East Riding of Yorkshire Council to deliver the contract which incorporates both internal and external graphics; physical interactives; set works and bespoke furniture. The industrial heritage of the mill will be brought to life through floor to ceiling interpretive screens which will celebrate the history and impact of this iconic project.
Director at Marcon Fit-Out, Mark McElroy commented on the award: “It’s great to be working with hsd on this exciting project that will provide a learning facility for schools and groups, as well as providing visitors with an insight into the chalk quarry and the Mill’s operational history. Our team are really looking forward to getting on site.”
The interpretive fit-out is due to begin in September 2020.
