Marcon has been named Principal Contractor to collaborate with Hull Maritime, Hull City Council, and design experts Haley Sharpe on the ambitious Hull Maritime Project.
The project involves transforming Hull Maritime Museum, the iconic Arctic Corsair, and the new visitor centre at North End Shipyard.
Jointly funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Hull City Council, this project will not only revitalize the physical spaces but also reimagine the display of Hull’s extensive maritime collection. The North End Shipyard, located on the River Hull, will feature a new visitor orientation building, setting the stage for a world-class maritime heritage destination.
Marcon will play a pivotal role in the transformation. Using innovative designs by Haley Sharpe, Marcon will install state-of-the-art display cases, interactive technology, and captivating audio-visual elements, alongside our specialist supply chain. These enhancements will breathe new life into Hull’s rich maritime history, offering an immersive and inspiring experience for visitors.
Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted that Marcon has been appointed to lead the exhibition fit out of these important attractions. The contract represents a critical milestone in the delivery phase of the project, and we are excited to see the displays being built and installed after all the research and development work over the last few years.
“A small team has worked hard to research and develop the stories of a city whose influence stretches around the globe – and we are looking forward to working with Marcon to help them bring those stories to life like never before.”
Preconstruction works are set to begin immediately with the project being scheduled for completion late 2025.
Martin McErlean, Contract Manager at Marcon commented: “We are honoured to be selected as the Principal Contractor for the Hull Maritime Project. This is a unique opportunity to showcase Hull’s rich maritime history through innovative design and cutting-edge technology. Our team is committed to delivering an inspiring and world-class experience for all visitors, bringing the city’s incredible maritime stories to life.”
